Trainers and behaviourists offer very different types of support, so it helps to know what you actually need before booking anyone.

A behaviourist focuses on issues such as over excitement, anxiety, reactivity, or aggression. Their work looks at the underlying cause of a dog’s behaviour and how to change it safely and effectively.

A trainer is best for things like basic obedience, agility, and activities that build skills and provide healthy stimulation.

When choosing a behaviourist, it’s worth making sure they visit you in person rather than offering a phone or video consultation.

Effective behaviour work needs to be practical, hands on, and tailored to your dog in their own environment, not just a chat over a screen.
